Online and Your Child
What we do
At Rufford Primary School, we are fully committed to the safeguarding of our pupils and Online Safety is of paramount importance. At Rufford, we teach online safety through out PHSE curriculum, our Computing curriculum and through discrete lessons and assemblies. With the ongoing support of you as parents, we aim to educate our children to make the right decisions to keep themselves safe online. Throughout the year we offer a range of support to parents on the subject of Online Safety through workshops, guidance on our Newsletters and through the Safer Schools App. Please find information below about keeping your child safe online. Know and understand which apps your child is using.
There are always new apps for children to play games and communicate. You can find out important information about the apps such as their privacy settings, the type of content and which age groups they are suitable for.

Online gaming
Alan Mackenzie, Optimus Education, examines the research on the effects of violent video games and suggests what schools and parents can do to control behavioural changes.
We work with the National College to help ensure we are up to date with the latest online safety guidance. Here are some of their '#WakeUpWednesday guides'. These can help all of us to stay updated on the latest online safety and wellbeing-related topics.
Safer Schools App
We are really pleased that we are able to offer access to the Safer Schools App. The App is designed to support and educate families. The App provides you with relevant information on popular online safety topics and platforms. As a parent/carer, you will receive advice and guidance on how to help keep your child safer online. www.thinkuknow.co.uk – The Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre has set up its own website which has been designed and written specifically for children, young people, teachers, parents and carers.
www.kidsmart.org.uk – Kidsmart is an award winning internet safety website for parents and those working with children. It has been developed by the children’s internet charity Childnet International and has excellent information on many of the technologies used by children, with guidance on how to ‘stay safe’ online.
www.childnet.com/parents-and-carers/ – This website is about the potential dangers with interactive services online like chat, IM, online games, email and on mobiles. It provides information, advice, true stories and games. The resource page also contains a number of links to other useful websites.
parents.vodafone.com – Being very accessible, this provides information and guidance to parents to help under the digital world. There is also an online test to see how much you know.
www.internetmatters.org – Lots of guidance and articles for parents about keeping their children safe online.
www.digizen.org – A website designed to strengthen awareness and understanding of what digital citizenship is. It encourages users of technology to be and become responsible DIGItal citiZENS.
CEOP
The Click CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection) button is an asset of the National Crime Agency’s CEOP Command. The CEOP Command works to protect children from the harm of sexual abuse and exploitation both online and offline.
It provides access to trusted online safety advice, help and support, and is an online mechanism for reporting known or suspected child sexual exploitation or child sexual abuse directly to CEOP. Please click on the image below to access this support if you have concerns about a child.
