Our Curriculum
At Rufford, we endeavour to weave our values: Resilience, Integrity, Self-awareness, and Excellence, into our curriculum because we believe that these values are crucial for supporting our children to be proud of who they are and well-prepared for the next stage of their education.
This is the framework that helps us to weave our values into our curriculum:
Resilience
Mindfulness and Emotional Well-being: we will integrate mindfulness and self-regulation into daily routines to help children manage stress and build resilience.
Problem-solving and Growth Mindset: we will develop tasks that encourage problem-solving and cultivate a growth mindset, emphasising that setbacks are opportunities for learning and growth.
Integrity
Ethical Education: we will incorporate discussions on ethics, honesty, and fairness across subjects, teaching our children to make ethical decisions.
Community Engagement: we will encourage participation in school leadership and in community projects to in still a sense of responsibility and integrity towards the school community.
Self-awareness
Self-reflection and Goal Setting: we will design opportunities that encourage self-reflection, self-assessment, and goal-setting to help children understand themselves better and plan for their future.
Emotional Intelligence: we will promote self-regulation and understanding of emotions, helping students develop a deeper sense of self-awareness.
Excellence
Personalised Learning: we will adapt learning to accommodate different learning needs, encouraging each child to be better today than they were yesterday.
Encouragement of Passion: we will encourage students to develop and explore their interests, fostering a sense of passion and dedication towards their chosen pursuits.
Curriculum Integration:
We will infuse stories and examples that highlight the values of resilience, integrity, self-awareness, and excellence within lessons.
We will explore historical figures or events that embody these values and discuss their relevance to contemporary society.
We will foster resilience through physical challenges, teaching the importance of perseverance and determination in sports and activities.
We will use art, music, and drama to encourage self-expression and showcase the pursuit of excellence through practice and refinement.
Assessment and Recognition:
We will acknowledge and celebrate instances where children demonstrate these values, fostering a positive environment that values character alongside academic achievement.
We will provide constructive feedback that emphasises the importance of these values, encouraging children to reflect on their actions and behaviours.
We will endeavour to weave these values into the curriculum and consistently reinforce them across all aspects of school life—in the classroom, in school policies, in daily interactions, and in extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities; in this way we will create an environment where children not only gain knowledge but also develop the character traits and values that will help them to thrive in our modern world. We recognise that our curriculum will continue to evolve but our focus on our values will remain.
